India’s rapidly ageing population may soon outweigh the demographic dividend of a young workforce. India is the second largest elderly population country. With the increase in the life expectancy, the elderly population is also increasing, thereby increase in the dependent people.
Economic independence of older population is the key indicator of their wellbeing.
Often with dependencies upon family members, they face numerous
uncertainties and harsh reality of deprivation. With the low income per household, the most neglected will be the elderly.
Also in India, in elderly population, 59.6% is malnourished or at risk of malnourished. There are various reasons such as difficulty chewing or swallowing, loss of appetite, lack of funds, lack of awareness, physical and financial dependency etc, but the most prevalent reason is neglect and abuse of elderly.
Sources suggest that every second senior citizen gets mistreated or degraded by the members of the family.
Through this program, our aim was to give monthly support apart from clothing and Provision Bag. The monthly support amount was ₹ 200. This was with the kind support and helping hand by the Hope Now Organization. We are very grateful to them and other donors.
This program has been for 4 years and it was stopped after Telangana Government has started Asara Pension Scheme for elderly.
